There is another advantage of standardizing on the flow module - for SCADA use. The flow values are all identified as the same tags, regardless of how the flow values were derived.
This greatly reduces the integration cost required to bring all of the flow data back from each lift station into a standard page, and into daily/weekly/monthly reports.
Benefits of flow calculations
Most lift stations do not have flow meters as the installed cost is too high, plus they need regular re-calibration.
Using MultiSmart, calculating flow on each lift station is now a cost-effective exercise with a few major benefits:
provide preventative maintenance indicators - flow rates for each pumps
engineering data of total volumes though the stations allows accurate planning of capital works upgrades
comparing station flows during wet weather events allows easier visibility of where infiltration is taking place
How do I get the flow module for my MultiSmart installation?
If your MultiSmart unit hasn't yet been shipped, you can simply place a PO for that module and your unit will arrive with the flow module installed.
If your MultiSmart unit is already installed, the module can simply be enabled by entering a new Site Key.
All you need to provide to your MultiTrode representative is the Site Code and a PO for the additional module.
To find the Site Code, go into the Settings menu, press More, More, (to get to settings screen 3 of 3) and Software Modules. Select Enable/Disable Modules - this screen shows which modules are installed in the unit. Press Modify and you will see the 12 digit Site Code. Once you have been given a new Site Key, this screen is where it is entered.
Where not to use "Flow Calculations"
There are two installation types which don't work well for flow calculation from volumetrics:
VFD pump stations
Fill/pump up stations (e.g. pumping up to a reservoir, booster stations)
Note that if you have a flow meter on these stations, and want to view the flow statistics and accumulators on the flow page, then you should still use the flow module.
