The United Nations has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which, according to their website*,” are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”

These SDGs have been devised after decades of work by both the UN and individual countries and covers comprehensive topics, including economic, social and environmental. The goals are:

GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 4: Quality Education
GOAL 5: Gender Equality
GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality
GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
GOAL 13: Climate Action
GOAL 14: Life Below Water
GOAL 15: Life on Land
GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal

Following a network meeting at their local Women in Sustainability (WIS) group, our Climate Change Champions, Samantha and Andrea have been inspired to get Sentridge Control involved in this global challenge. It is unrealistic to think we can all take on the 17 goals, we still need to run a business!

Samantha explains, “We truly believe in the infamous saying, ‘a small change can make a big difference’. WIS is launching a #pick3goals campaign and given that delivering energy saving solutions is at the heart of our business, we feel we are well on our way to helping achieve the 11th Goal -Sustainable Cities and Communities.”

Samantha continues, “Andrea and I will be working with the rest of the team to decide on which other 2 goals we will pick and we hope to get clients and suppliers on board too.”
