We recently installed an ABB Solution on a standard Negri Bossi Moulding Machine at a site in Leamington Spa.
The data collected shows clearly the immediate and significant savings that are made during the Press Cycle.
During a week trial, energy comparisons were made at the incoming supply to the machine, measuring the original controls and Sentridge ABB VSD control
This allows the hydraulic motor to have an infinitely variable flow which is matched precisely to the demand of the machine, instead of proportional valves controlling flow and pressure, and burst-off valves dumping the excess oil.
After the application of the variable speed drive the speed of the moulding machine motor was reduced to the required level and thus saves energy.
The possible size of the savings is dependent upon the wall thickness and holding times of the press. Further reductions can be made by optimising other functions during the moulding process.
Savings could be seen immediately, and a simple switch was installed which allows the operator to revert to conventional control should the need arise.
The life of machinery is also extended and maintenance costs reduced due to the fact that motors no longer operate constantly at full speed.
