We were really pleased to be able to work with Severn Trent at a recent event for young people. Severn Trent had a stand at the Big Bang, an exhibition held for young people to celebrate science, technology, engineering and maths.
The water utility company wanted to demonstrate some of the engineering solutions they have adopted to save energy at their pumping stations.
Our ABB drive demonstration model was perfect for them. Using a balloon (or ABB beach ball!) and a fan, it was easy for the young people to see the amazing affect of introducing a variable speed drive into a process.

The balloon was kept up in the air by the air blown from the fan. A simple control panel, showed how the height of
the balloon was controlled by the speed of the fan. There was also an energy usage display and so visitors to the stand could see how hard the fan was working and how much energy was being consumed.
A variable speed drive was introduced into the process and the impact could be seen straight away. The height of the balloon remained the same, but the energy consumption was drastically reduced as the drive controlled the fan in a much more efficient way.
Severn Trent were able to explain how introducing variable speed inverter drives into their plants had dramatically cut their energy costs and also improved the performance of their processes, leading to less breakdowns and maintenance.
Something as simple as this could help your business too. Please contact us today to book our FREE energy audit and find out how much you could be saving.
