The James Kent Group supplies its customers with a wide range of bespoke and tailored products for the glass, ceramic, dental, nuclear, refractories and recently the vitreous enamelling industries.
Their Local Exhaust Ventilation on a Constant Kiln system consisted of 3 off 30KW extract fans. Normally the process needed 2 fans running and the required extraction was achieved by closing dampers. It was decided that one fan running at full speed and one fan running slower meant the dampers could be open and en
ergy could be saved.
To prove this, one of the existing softstarts was replaced with a Sentridge trial inverter and by logging before and after power consumption it was calculated that the savings would be around £5,000 per year.
Once proven. the project went ahead and James Kent started saving. They also found out that for certain conditions just one fan at 70% speed was sufficient. The pay back was around 9 months.
