One of the challenges of running pump applications is knowing what flow you need to achieve for the best outcome, both in terms of process performance and energy management.
Let’s take a look at the options for flow measurement:

Doppler – this is a good tool for flow indication but not if you want a more accurate measurement of millilitres per second.

Magflow – a more accurate flow measurement tool and ideal if you are in a new build situation, but to retrofit this piece of kit can be extremely difficult. Gaining access and rerouting flow for the time needed for installation can be an impossible task.

NivuFlow – designed and manufactured by NIVUS, this tool uses a unique cross-correlation technique to continually read actual flow data through a pipe. Two snapshots of data are collected every second, they are compared and correlated to produce a record of accurate, real-time flow measurement data. The added advantage of this device is that it can be installed within 2 hours with minimum disruption. In addition, only 25mm of the measurement sensor sits within the pipe, which minimises the risk of ragging or clogging.

Sentridge has been so impressed with the accuracy of the NivuFlow that we have spent the past 12 months working with them and the Energy Team at Severn Trent Water to develop a unique solution for improving the efficiency of waste water pumps. We have combined ABB Drive Technology with NivuFlow to create the NivuFlow Energy Saver. Following a number of successful trials, this solution is being rolled out to critical sites within the Severn Trent Region.
